Unattended stove causes fire; no injuries reported

Everyone escaped safely Friday evening from an apartment complex near Patterson after a fire started due to a pot being left on a stove, Patterson Volunteer Fire Chief Eric Boudreaux said.
The fire department received the call reporting a fire at Grandwood Apartments near Patterson at about 6 p.m. Friday.
Firefighters responded to the scene by 6:05 p.m. with a pumper fire truck, Boudreaux said.
The fire started in an upstairs apartment after a resident left a pot on the stove and fell asleep, Boudreaux said.
She woke up to find her apartment full of smoke and called 911, Boudreaux said. Firefighters extinguished the fire, he said.
The kitchen and ceiling of the apartment received moderate damage from the fire, and the other upstairs apartments at the complex had heavy smoke inside them, Boudreaux said.
“We had to do a lot of ventilating getting the smoke out the apartments,” Boudreaux said.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, he said.
“Everybody got out of the apartments. They had them all out before we even got there,” he said.
