Surveillance video shows suspect in Berwick vehicle burglaries

Berwick Police are investigating a rash of vehicle burglaries at trailer parks across from Country Club Estates that occurred during the early morning hours Tuesday.
A suspect or suspects is believed to have been walking in the area pulling on vehicle doors to steal items from unlocked vehicles, Police Chief James Richard said. No vehicles were damaged, and there was no forced entry into the vehicles, Richard said.
Police released a video surveillance showing a suspect police are trying to identify. Police believe the burglaries happened between midnight until 6 am . Tuesday, Richard said.
According to a St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office news release Wednesday, there were 17 vehicle burglaries reported to Berwick Police in the area of the 3500 block of La. 182 in Berwick. A suspect is seen on video surveillance rummaging through unlocked vehicles stealing money and other items, the release said. Richard reminded everyone to keep their vehicles locked at all times, the release stated.
As of this morning, Richard said about 20 vehicle burglaries had been reported to have occurred during the time period, he said.
Also this morning, Richard said Berwick Police were checking into leads and tips they’ve received from the public, but didn’t have anything “concrete” yet.
