Lady Eagles receive state title rings

The Central Catholic High School softball team celebrated its 2015 Class 1A championship Friday as the squad was presented its rings during an awards banquet at the Yvonne Anne Adams Life Center.
“It’s just an awesome feeling, very humbling feeling, and very proud of those girls and what they worked hard for and what they achieved,” Central Catholic coach Joe Russo said of the ceremony.
And while the team had to wait to get their rings in before having the ceremony, Russo said it was definitely worth the wait.
In addition to the rings, team members received individual awards from the 2015 season, while Russo was presented a plaque recognizing his award as Class 1A All-State Coach of the Year.
Central Catholic concluded its season with a 26-3 mark, knocking off Cedar Creek 6-4 in the state finals on May 2.
The title was the first in softball for the school as well as the first for Russo.
Individual awards handed out Friday included:
—All-District-7-1A: Kaitlyn Gros, first-team utility; Brittany Longman, first-team second baseman; Bridgette Swan, first-team first baseman; Megan Landry, first-team pitcher; Taylor Picou, second-team outfielder; Brooke Lipari, second-team shortstop; Paige Thomas, honorable mention; Halley Romero, honorable mention; and Hallie Autin, honorable mention.
—Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A All-State: Gros, first-team; Longman, first-team; Landry, first-team.
—Class 1A Louisiana Coaches All-State: Longman and Landry.
—Class 1A Academic All-State: Longman, Thomas and Brandi Landry.
—Academic All-State Composite: Megan Landry.
—Coaches Award: Thomas.
