McDonald hangs on for fourth title in a row

Belleview Golf Club recently held its fifth club championship.
Once again, Bobby McDonald outlasted the field to claim his fourth consecutive championship.
McDonald, who was two shots behind first day leader Ty Burdett going into Sunday’s final round, needed three extra sudden death holes to defeat Burdett, who followed his opening day round of 73 with a second day score of 77. McDonald shot 75 both days to total 150, tying Burdett after 36 holes of play. They entered a three hole playoff and were tied going into the third and final hole where McDonald birdied to close out the championship.
Others who were in the final pairing after shooting exceptional first day scores were Bryant Tibbs and Brad Rodrigue, who played steady golf throughout the second day but could not overcome McDonald or Burdett. The final board showed McDonald finishing first followed by Burdett, Robbie Senette and Bryant Tibbs.
In the Senior Division, Randy Battaglia took first place honors over last year’s champion Marshall Lee. The two players battled it out over the last day with Battaglia eventually pulling out the win. Other top finishers were Charlie Ibert and Mickey Michel.
Also on the card were the Super Senior’s. This division is made up of players age 70 and over. A total of 12 men competed with Jules “Ca-Ca” Hebert coming out victorious and being named the club’s first Super Senior winner. Other top finishers included Charles Judice and David Williamson.
In all, a total of 42 golfers competed in the various divisions. The top 12 in each division will be taking on St. Mary’s Golf Club of Berwick in the annual parish Ryder Cup during the weekend of Aug. 29-30th.
