’Jacks, Eagles ranked

Patterson and Central Catholic are ranked in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s initial prep football poll.
Patterson is ranked No. 5 in Class 3A with 72 votes and is receiving one first-place vote.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic is the top vote-getter outside the top 10 in Class 1A as they received 23 votes.
Central Catholic fell Friday to Catholic High of New Iberia, 21-0, in the Kiwanis Clubs of Opelousas and Lafayette’s 2nd Annual Gridiron Football Jamboree. Catholic High is ranked No. 8 in Class 2A and received one first-place vote.
Patterson held off Class 4A Morgan City, 13-12, in the Morgan City High School Jamboree.
Patterson will open its season Friday at Central Lafourche in Matthews in a 7 p.m. contest, while Central Catholic will begin its season Thursday with a 7 p.m. matchup at St. John of Plaquemine.
