Berwick High School falls in five games to Thibodaux
Berwick High School lost a five-game marathon match to Thibodaux 3-2 Wednesday in Thibodaux.
While Berwick won the first two games by identical scores of 25-21, they dropped the final three 25-19, 25-22, 15-13.
In the win, Berwick recorded 31 kills and 101 digs.
Sydney Aucoin and Ashton Morales led Berwick. Aucoin had 11 kills and seven digs, while Morales had one ace, five kills, 10 assists and 12 digs.
Other top contributors included Mary Jordan Melancon, one ace, three kills, 11 assists and 19 digs; Alyssa Gray, eight kills, two assists and two digs; Brittany Roberie, 26 digs; Emma Hover, two aces and 12 digs; Jordan Lipari, one ace, two kills and nine digs; and Madelyn Gros, nine digs.
Berwick entered Wednesday’s game ranked No. 7 in Division III, while Thibodaux was No. 18 in Division I.
In junior varsity action, Berwick beat Thibodaux 2-0 (25-19, 25-18), while in freshman action, Berwick won 2-0 (25-9, 25-23).
Berwick (5-6) will return to action Saturday when it participates in Woodlawn of Baton Rouge’s tournament. Berwick will face Parkview Baptist at 8 a.m., Ponchatoula at 9:40 a.m. and St. Martin’s Episcopal at 11:20 a.m. Parkview Baptist was a semifinalist in 2014 in Division III.
South Terrebonne
sweeps Patterson
South Terrebonne defeated Patterson 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-16) in Bourg Wednesday.
Erykah Singleton led the squad with seven kills, five digs and one block.
Other top contributors included Arian Grogan, two aces and three kills; and Tapanga Haven, one dig and five assists.
South Terrebonne entered the squad ranked No. 3 in the latest unofficial Division II volleyball power rankings, while Patterson is No. 17 in Division IV.
Patterson (5-8) will return to action Tuesday when it opens District 2-IV action at home against West St. Mary.
Morgan City falls
to Assumption
Morgan City High School fell to Assumption 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-15) in Morgan City Wednesday.
Alex Thompson and Kennedy Hebert led Morgan City. Thompson had six kills, one block and three digs, while Hebert had five kills, two assists and five digs.
Other top contributors included Allie Vincent, one ace, five assists and four digs; Cecily Feliciano, three kills and nine digs; Katelyn Gautreaux, 15 digs; Dwanna LeBeau, one kill, one block and five digs; Brandi Albarado, one ace and seven digs; Abby Reynaud, nine assists; Kaitlyn Gros, six digs; and Paige Loftin, one ace, one kill, one block and three digs.
Assumption entered the game ranked No. 7 in Division II in the latest unofficial power rankings, while Morgan City is No. 14 in Division III.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell 2-0 (25-23, 25-22).
Faith Crappell and Reynaud led the Lady Tigers. Crappell had two aces, four kills, one block, one assist and five digs, while Reynaud had four kills, one block, one assist and eight digs.
Other top contributors included Vincent, four assists and 14 digs; Hallie Blanchard, 11 digs; McKenzi Smith, two kills and six digs; Hannah Gros, nine digs; and Sh’Diamond Holly, two blocks and four digs.
In freshman action, Morgan City fell 2-0 (25-17, 25-17).
Jolee Nini led the Lady Tigers with two aces, two kills, one assist and seven digs, while Blanchard had one ace, two kills and six digs.
Other top contributors included Karmen Peterson, one kill, one block and five digs; Nia Lightfoot, one kill and five digs; and Daysha Tivet, two aces.
Morgan City will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Berwick in the teams’ District 8-III opener. Freshman action will begin at 3:30 p.m., while junior varsity and varsity action will follow.
