Sheriff, parish president posts go to voters Saturday

St. Mary Parish voters will have several local races to vote on Saturday, including parish president, sheriff, parish council, district judge and state representative among others.
Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters Jolene Holcombe said.
According to the Louisiana secretary of state’s website, voters should bring a photo I.D. to the polls, which can include a Louisiana driver’s license, Louisiana special I.D. card or another generally recognized picture identification card with your name and signature, such as a passport. Voters without an ID will be required to fill out an affidavit but will be allowed to vote.
By law, voters are allowed three minutes to cast their ballots in order to expedite long lines. Voters in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote, the secretary of state’s website says.
Candidates for St. Mary Parish Sheriff are Mark Hebert, D-Franklin; “Doug” Perry, R-Patterson; and Blaise W. Smith, D-Franklin.
Parish president candidates include Gary Duhon, D-Morgan City; and David Hanagriff, D-Centerville.
There are four parish council races on the ballot for east St. Mary Parish voters.
District 3 council member candidates are Wendell C. Bogan, D-Franklin; Paul Gil, R-Patterson; Rodney P. Olander, R-Franklin; and Dale J. Rogers, D-Franklin.
District 5 council member candidates include Bealizeia “Billy” Badeaux, No Party-Patterson; and “Ken” Singleton, R-Patterson.
At Large District 9 council member candidates are Mac R. Bruno, No Party-Jeanerette; William Paul Frost, R-Centerville; and Paul P. Naquin Jr., D-Baldwin.
At Large District 10 council member candidates include Steve F. Bierhorst, D-Patterson; and Reginald D. Weary, D-Patterson.
Candidates for state representative 51st Representative District are Beryl Adams Amedee, R-Gray; Howard J. Castay Jr., D-Morgan City; and “Joe” Harrison, R-Napoleonville. The district includes parts of St. Mary, Terrebonne, Lafourche and Assumption parishes. The St. Mary portion of the district has some of Morgan City and Amelia.
District judge candidates for Division D of the 16th Judicial District Court are “Eddie” Guidry, R-St. Martinville; Nicholas “Nick” LaRocca, R-Morgan City; and Lewis Pitman, R-New Iberia. The 16th Judicial District includes St. Mary, St. Martin and Iberia parishes.
Board of Elementary and Secondary Education District 3 candidates include Lottie Beebe, R-Breaux Bridge; and “Sandy” LeBlanc Holloway, R-Thibodaux.
Also on the ballot is a proposition to renew the town of Berwick’s drainage fee of $25 per acre on land within the town’s limits. The fee renewal is estimated to generate $74,000 annually. The renewal would begin in 2016 and continue for 20 years, for the purpose of constructing, acquiring, maintaining, operating, or improving drains, drainage facilities, drainage systems or drainage networks, according to the secretary of state’s website.
