Sheriff: Man in slow-moving vehicle had drugs

A 30-year-old Houston man was arrested Friday in St. Mary Parish on drug charges after a sheriff’s deputy located a vehicle traveling well under the speed limit on U.S. 90, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Jose Garza, 30, of the 11900 block of Beeville Drive in Houston, Texas, was arrested at 12:47 p.m. Friday on the charges of violation of the general speed law, no driver’s license, possession of Schedule I synthetic cannabinoids and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After receiving a complaint of a reckless driver on U.S. 90 in the Ricohoc area, a deputy located the suspect vehicle traveling at an extremely slow rate of speed, about 35 miles per hour.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop in the Centerville area and made contact with the driver, identified as Garza. While speaking with the man, the deputy learned that Garza was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license. The deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located synthetic cannabinoids. Garza was jailed with bail set at $4,000.
Hebert reported responding to 124 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Eric Frentz, 34, of the 300 block of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday on the charge of criminal trespass.
—Cody Groves, 34, of the 200 block of Cremo Lane in Patterson, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday on the charge of criminal trespass.
—Christopher Pittman, 28, of Laura Street in Patterson, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday on the charge of criminal trespass.
A deputy responded to the Jesse Fontenot Boat Landing in reference to a report of trespassing on a hunting lease property in the area. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Frentz, Groves and Pittman were hunting hogs on the property. The deputy released the three subjects on summons to appear in court Jan. 13, 2016.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Dana Peters, 32, of North Prairie Road in Verdunville, at 1:19 a.m. Saturday on a warrant dated Oct. 9, on the charge of disturbing the peace. Officers responded to a disturbance in the area of St. John Street. When officers arrived, there was a large crowd in the area. Officers found that Peters was involved in a fight. Peters was booked and released on $500 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
