'Jacks slip a spot, CCHS idle in prep polls

Patterson slipped a spot in Class 3A, while Central Catholic remained idle in Class 1A, according to the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association prep football polls released today.
Although the Lumberjacks routed North Vermilion 62-17, the Lumberjacks and Jena, a 28-21 winner against Peabody, traded spots. The Lumberjacks now are ranked No. 8 and Jena, No. 7. Jena received 57 points, while Patterson had 55.
Patterson, which can clinch the District 8-3A title this week with a win against Franklin, is one of three teams from District 8-3A receiving recognition in Class 3A this week. E.D. White (6-3), a 55-33 win against Berwick, and Kaplan (6-3), a 14-10 winner against Erath, each received a vote.
University Lab (8-1) remained the No. 1 team in Class 3A. They received seven first-place votes and 116 points.
In Class 1A, Central Catholic (8-1) remained No. 7 in the latest poll after a 54-13 victory against Gueydan. The Eagles will be playing for a possible share of the District 7-1A title Friday when it hosts No. 2 Ascension Episcopal.
Central Catholic is receiving 68 points, while Ascension Episcopal is 9-0 and has earned 109 total points and two first-place votes.
The duo is among four teams from District 7-1A receiving recognition in Class 1A this week as Vermilion Catholic is just ahead of Central Catholic at No. 6, while Highland Baptist (6-3) received a vote after defeating Hanson Memorial 41-0. Vermilion Catholic (7-2) received 70 points this week.
St. Mary’s remained No. 1 in Class 1A. They are 9-0 with seven first-place votes and 115 points.
In Class 4A, Morgan City’s District 7-4A foe, Assumption (8-1) received two votes this week. The Mustangs will host Morgan City Friday with a chance to clinch the District 7-4A title outright.
Neville (9-0) remained No. 1 in Class 4A. They have received all 10 first-place votes and 120 votes overall.
