Berwick leads area cross country teams

Area cross country runners concluded their 2015 prep seasons last week at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Cross Country Championships.
In Class 3A, Berwick’s boys finished 11th in team scoring with 298 points.
The squad was led in the three-mile run by sophomore Ian Valdez, who recorded an 11th place finish with a time of 18:06.04.
Other participants for the Panthers included freshman Hector Plata, No. 46, with a time of 20:00.34; Berwick senior Austin Doise, No. 48, 20:10.65; freshman Dylan Lipari, No. 101, 22:45.07; sophomore Sean Cantrelle, No. 123, 24:33.38; freshman Josh Sanford, No. 127, 24:59.50; and senior Jeremy Orgeron, No. 138, 27:16.31.
On the girls’ side, Berwick’s lone participant, sophomore Abigail Hernandez, finished No. 89 with a time of 29:08.85.
In Class 1A, Central Catholic sophomore Cade Minton led the boys’ squad, clocking in at No. 63 with a time of 21:15.49, while sophomore Braxton Alcina finished No. 69 with a time of 21:51.97.
Junior Luke Cunningham rounded out the Eagles’ participants as he finished No. 102 with a time of 24:08.11.
In Class 4A, Morgan City finished 25th in team scoring with 688 points.
Freshman Jose Aguilera led the team, as he clocked in No. 69 at 20:02.88, while freshman Kevin Ramirez was No. 146 at 22:55.95.
Other Morgan City participants included senior Luis Ramirez, No. 171, 25:11.09; sophomore Reid McDill, No. 175, 25:58.42; junior Irving Montes, No. 182, 29:35.58; junior Logan Fontenot, No. 183, 30:47.73, and freshman Leroy Guillot, No. 184, 32:15.
