Centerville boys, girls earn Tourney of the Teche wins
CENTERVILLE _ Centerville’s girls and boys notched victories in the opening round of the annual Tournament of the Teche here at the Centerville High School Gymnasiums.
In the opening round of the boys games, the Houma Christian Warriors outlasted the Jeanerette Tigers, 50-40.
Houma Christian 50, Jeanerette 40
Tom Washington scored 15 points while Trent Washington tossed in 11 points with Manny Frye and Tre Washington bagging 10 points each to propel the Warriors.
Jeanerette’s top scorers were T. Batiste with 12 and D. Polidore with 10.
In the second boys contest, the Centerville Bulldogs earned a 47-45 win over the Franklin Hornets.

Centerville’s leading scorers included: Marquis Strawder, 14; Marvin Strawder, 12; Lance Howard, 10; Cole Candella, 4; Desmond Monette, 4; Jaqualon Bourgeois, 2 and Karl Young, 1.
Top scorers for Franklin were: K. Ina, 14; I. Washington, 9; D. Charles, 8; J. Boyd, 8; J. Boyd, 4 and T. James, 2.
Friday’s Boys schedule will pit Franklin against Jeanerette at 4 p.m.; Houma Christian versus Central Catholic at 5:30 p.m. and E.D. White against Centerville at 7 p.m.
In Girls action in the Tourney of the Teche, the Patterson Lady Jills defeated the Jeanerette Lady Tigers in Game 1. In Game 2, the Centerville Lady Bulldogs beat the Berwick Lady Panthers while the Morgan City Lady Tigers won over the Central Catholic Lady Eagles.
Patterson 43, Jeanerette 25
Nyla Holder scored in double digits, leading the Patterson Lady Jills to a 43-25 win over the Jeanerette Lady Tigers.
Other top scorers for Patterson were: Makayla Ruiz, 8; Erykah Singleton, 8.
O. Colar tossed in eight points while M. Jeanlouis had seven to lead Jeanerette.
Centerville 31, Berwick 16
Centerville’s Lady Bulldogs went on a 16-0 first quarter run before posting a 31-16 victory over the Berwick Lady Panthers.
Rylie Candella poured in 13 points while Kayla Robinson tossed in eight points to power the Lady Bulldogs.
Morgan City 39, Central Catholic 24
The Morgan City Lady Tiger benefited from a 16-6 second quarter run to secure a 39-24 victory over Central Catholic Lady Eagles.
Girls action continues today with Central Catholic taking on Jeanerette at 4 p.m. before Centerville battles Morgan City at 5:30 p.m. and Patterson playing H. L. Bourgeois at 7 p.m.
