Lady Tigers win Centerville's Tournament of the Teche

Morgan City finished 2-0 during the final two days of Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche en route to the tournament title.
The Lady Tigers, who began the tournament with a win against Central Catholic Thursday, knocked off Centerville 39-23 Friday before topping H.L. Bourgeois 42-23 Saturday for the tournament championship.
In the championship, Morgan City led 8-2 after the first quarter, 22-4 at halftime and 32-13 after three quarters.
Laqwaijha Bourgeois led Morgan City with 13 points.
Other scorers included Sh’Diamond Holly, eight; Alisha Singleton and Elicia Dorsey, six points each; Steveyion Walker, four; Meya Morse, three; and Ke’tasha Williams, two.
In Friday’s victory against Centerville, Morgan City led 14-6 after the first quarter, 21-10 at halftime and 30-17 after three quarters.
Bourgeois led Morgan City with 14 points.
Other scorers included Singleton, eight; Morse, five; India Bennett, three; and Nia Lightfoot and Steveyion Walker, two apiece.
Morgan City (4-1) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Northside in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
Patterson finishes third
The Patterson Lumberjills went 1-1 this weekend at the Tournament of the Teche for a third-place finish.
After falling to H.L. Bourgeois 42-38 Friday, the Lumberjills held off Centerville 39-34 Saturday.
In Saturday’s game with Centerville, Patterson held off a second-half Centerville surge for the victory.
While Patterson led 28-14 at the half, Centerville had cut its deficit to 33-27 by the end of the third quarter.
Centerville outscored Patterson 7-6 in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
Alex Benjamin led Patterson with 19 points, while Erykah Singleton had nine.
Against H.L. Bourgeois, Singleton led Patterson with 14 points.
Patterson (3-3) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Central Lafourche in a 6 p.m. contest.
CCHS records
fifth-place finish
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles finished fifth in Centerville’s tournament with a 48-26 victory against Berwick.
Central Catholic led 24-0 after the first quarter, 30-5 at halftime and 33-13 after three quarters.
Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with 16 points, while Lydia Rivas scored 15.
Yani Johnson added eight points in the win.
Madison Carline led Berwick with 10 points, while Jordan Lipari scored nine.
While Berwick received a bye to the fifth-place game, Central Catholic defeated Jeanerette 50-29 Friday to advance.
While Jeanerette led 7-6 after a quarter, Central Catholic responded with a 17-8 second-quarter outburst for a 23-15 halftime lead and extended its lead to 40-24 after three quarters.
Rivas led Central Catholic with 18 points, while Autin scored 10 and Aaliyah Poole added six.
Central Catholic (4-1) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Vandebilt Catholic in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick (0-3) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts St. John in a 6 p.m. contest.
