Allain named chairman of senate coastal restoration committee
State Sen. Bret Allain, R-Franklin, is the new chair of the Senate Select Committee on Coastal Restoration and Flood Control, according to senate new release.
Senate President John Alario, Jr. appointed Allain, who began his second term in the Louisiana Senate this month, to the leadership post.
“I look forward to continuing my work with the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) to tackle the on-going threats to lives and livelihoods in the Senate District 21 area and across our coastal parishes – coastal erosion and flooding,” Allain said in the news release. “It is vital that we move forward with the planned permanent flood control structure at Bayou Chene and other coastal erosion and flood control projects on the state’s construction priority list.”
The Senate created the coastal restoration and flood control committee in 2004 to study all issues related to coastal restoration and flooding in coastal parishes.
The committee considers issues relating to tidelands; construction, improvements and maintenance of waterways, lakes, and streams in coastal parishes; flood and drainage projects; levee districts; and public works projects relating to coastal restoration and flood control in the coastal parishes, the release said.
In addition to chairing the Select Committee on Coastal Restoration and Flood Control, Allain is taking on new leadership responsibilities as vice-chair of the Senate Finance Committee. He is also a member of the natural resources, agriculture and commerce committees.
