LSU softball to have 9 games nationally televised in 2016
Nine of the LSU softball team’s games this season will be nationally televised on the ESPN family of networks, the Southeastern Conference announced last week, with more than 70 contests featuring Southeastern Conference teams scheduled for air this year.
Now in its second year of operation, the SEC Network will serve as the outlet for six of the nine games, which will begin in March at the start of league play. The other three games will be on one of the host of ESPN channels available for fans.
Coverage of LSU kicks off March 12 with game two of the SEC series opener for LSU against Alabama in Baton Rouge at Tiger Park at 5 p.m. The series finale against the two Women’s College World Series participants from last season is set for a 2 p.m. first pitch the next day.
After last year’s high-powered series, ESPN2 will cover the series finale between LSU and the defending national champion Florida Gators beginning at 11 a.m. March 26.
The primetime treatment set for April and the series against Kentucky means the Tigers will have all three games featured on television that Sunday-Monday. The opener against the Wildcats is set for a 5 p.m. start April 9 on ESPN2, with Sunday’s game rounding out a day of action at 6 p.m. on the SEC Network, as well as 6 p.m. for the finale Monday night.
LSU will be featured on the road for the first time the next weekend, with a 7 p.m. date at the site for the SEC Tournament in May at Mississippi State April 16 on the SEC Network. The finale against the Bulldogs also will be on the network at 3:30 p.m. in Starkville, Mississippi.
The Tigers close out the scheduled TV slate at Arkansas April 30 on ESPNU, taking on the Razorbacks at 6 p.m. in Fayetteville.
The final day of the regular season on May 8 will see whip-around coverage to every game, which are all set for a noon start all on the SEC Network.
Every game of the 2016 SEC Softball Tournament will be covered live on the SEC Network, starting May 11 with the first of four opening round games that day beginning at 11 a.m.
The newly-renovated Mississippi State Softball Complex will host the four day event, with the network covering days one and two, with ESPNU airing the semifinals and ESPN broadcasting the championship game.
Games on other networks, as well as what games will be scheduled for SEC Network+, the SEC Network’s digital tier available through WatchESPN, will be announced at a later date.
