Morgan City man faces drug, resisting officer charges

A 19-year-old Morgan City man was arrested on several drug charges Thursday after officers Tasered him while he fought with them, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Kaleb Calloway, 19, of La. 70 in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:59 a.m. Thurs-day on a warrant charging him with simple battery and on the charges of possession of marijuana second offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of oxymorphone, possession of alprazolam, possession of legend drug without prescription (quetiapine fumarate), resisting an officer and introduction of contraband into a penal institute.
An officer conducted a traffic stop on La. 70 due to a traffic violation. Calloway was identified as a passenger inside the vehicle. A warrants check revealed that the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office held an arrest warrant for Calloway. Calloway was placed under arrest and searched when the officer located suspected drug paraphernalia on Calloway.
Calloway was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking. During booking, officers attempted to conduct a search of Calloway when he refused to cooperate and began fighting with officers, Blair said. Calloway was eventually Tasered, and officers located suspected marijuana, oxymorphone, alprazolam, and quetiapine fumarate on him, Blair said. Calloway was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrest:
—Rocky Sauce, 60, of Gib-son, was arrested at 10:32 a.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Sauce was arrested in the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court in regard to an arrest warrant for probation viola-tion. Sauce was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported 45 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Devin Leon, 28, of the 100 block of West Weber Street in St. Martinville, was arrested at 9:31 a.m. Thursday on the charges of no driver’s license, no proof of vehicle insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Schedule II hydrocodone.
A deputy stopped to render assistance to a motorist whose vehicle appeared to have overheated on U.S. 90 in the Ricohoc area. The deputy made contact with the driver, Leon, and discovered that he was operating the vehicle without a license. Also, Leon was unable to provide proof of insurance on the car.
While speaking with Leon, the deputy smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, Hebert said. Upon further investigation, the deputy located a burnt marijuana cigar and a hydrocodone pill inside the car, Hebert said. Leon was jailed with no bail set.
—Matthew Rollins, 22, of Patterson, was additionally charged on a warrant for two counts of issuing worthless checks. Rollins was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on other charges. No bail is set.
—Steve Scully Sr., 49, of the 100 block of Marian Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:18 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of Schedule I drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and improper lane usage.
Patterson police advised the sheriff’s office of a vehicle traveling east in the westbound lane of U.S. 90. A deputy assisted a Patterson police officer with a traffic stop on the vehicle near the city limit. The deputy made contact with Scully, one of the subjects who was stopped, and located the active warrant for his arrest. Scully was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
