Two charged with knifepoint robbery at Young Memorial

Morgan City police arrested two suspects who robbed someone of cash at knifepoint Wednesday afternoon in Young Memorial’s parking lot, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
Joseph Daniels, 19, of Samuel Street in Franklin, and Stephen R. Black, 20, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, were both arrested at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of armed robbery.
At 1:16 p.m. Wednesday, police received a report of a robbery in the parking lot of South Central Louisiana Technical College’s Young Memorial Campus on Youngs Road.
Detectives learned from witnesses and the victim that the victim was robbed at knifepoint by two men in the campus parking lot, Blair said.
Investigators learned that the victim and suspects were engaged in a negotiation to purchase a cell phone from Black. The victim got into a vehicle driven by Black attempting to complete the purchase. Daniels then opened the vehicle door holding a knife, Blair said.
Daniels forced the victim out of the vehicle and took about $250 in cash from the victim, Blair said. Daniels got into the vehicle driven by Black at which time they fled the area, Blair said.
Morgan City police provided a description of the duo and their vehicle to area law enforcement agencies. St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office personnel located the vehicle in the Franklin area and detained Black and Daniels.
Morgan City police investigators ultimately charged Black and Daniels with armed robbery. Both were booked into Morgan City jail with no bail set yet.
