Traffic offense sends Berwick man to parish jail
A 45-year-old Berwick man was arrested Tuesday for driving recklessly near Amelia on a suspended license, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Clarence T. Sheets Jr., 45, of the 400 block of Wilson Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday for reckless operation of a vehicle, driving under suspension, and possession of open alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle.
A deputy traveling on La. 182 in the Amelia area observed a driver passing other vehicles at a high rate of speed and nearly striking an oncoming vehicle.
The vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed before making a turn without signaling. Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy observed a male subject exit the driver’s seat with a can of beer in his hand.
The deputy also found that the driver, identified as Sheets, was operating the vehicle with a driver’s license that was listed as suspended.
Sheets was transported to the parish jail for booking. He was released on a summons to appear in court May 27.
Hebert reported responding to 27 complaints.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Raymond Smith, 47, of the 500 block of Barrow Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:01 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of driving under suspension, tail lights required, and warrants with St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Smith remains in jail. No bail is set.
—Roy Hernandez, 52, of the 300 block of Daspit Street in Gueydan, was arrested at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of disturbing the peace by intoxication.
Hernandez remains in jail with bail set at $175.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Jessica R. Pearce, 27, of Filmore Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:44 p.m. Tuesday on charges of improper turning, driving under suspension, and no vehicle insurance.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on Federal Avenue make an improper turn onto Marshall Street. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Pearce.
A driver’s license check revealed that Pearce had a suspended license. It was also reported that the vehicle did not have insurance.
Pearce was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated.
—Christina M. Medice , 44, of Bourg Street in Houma, was arrested at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for possession of Schedule 4 controlled dangerous substance (Xanax) and issuing worthless checks (15 counts).
Medice was located by officers at an address on Brashear Avenue where she was arrested on active arrest warrants held by the 32nd Judicial District Court.
Medice was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
