Lumberjacks split doubleheader Thursday

Patterson High School split a doubleheader Thursday at Patterson High as part of Hanson’s tournament.
Patterson run-ruled Highland Baptist, 11-1, in five innings in the first game before a late rally against Delcambre fell short in a 13-10 loss in the nightcap.
Against Highland Baptist, each team scored a run in the first inning before Patterson put the game away with four runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth to end the game via mercy rule.
Matt Dardeau and Blake Dreyer each connected on home runs in the victory. Dardeau finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, while Dreyer was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs. Other top offensive contributors included Jamey Fabre, 2-for-2, an RBI, a run and a stolen base; Bryce Beaubouef, 2-for-3, an RBI and two runs; and Brennan Gouaux, 1-for-4, a triple, two RBIs and a run.
Tyrik Singleton earned the complete-game victory for Patterson. In five innings, he surrendered one unearned run on three hits with two walks and fanned nine.
Against Delcambre, Patterson scored nine runs during the last three innings, including five in its final at bat, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a huge Delcambre lead.
Trailing 12-1 heading into its at bat in the bottom of the fifth, the Lumberjacks plated three runs and added one more in the bottom of the sixth to cut its deficit to 12-5.
After Delcambre added a run in the top of the seventh, Patterson plated five in the bottom of the frame.
Patterson lead 1-0 after an inning before Delcambre plated a combined 12 runs during the next four innings, including four runs apiece in the second and third innings and another three in the top of the fifth.
Dreyer connected on another home run in the win as he finished 1-for-4 with three RBIS and a run. Other top contributors included Gouaux, 2-for-3, a triple and three runs; Tyrik Singleton, 2-for-4, a double, an RBI and a run; Brad Beaubouef, 2-for-4, a run; Joel Singleton, 1-for-2, a double, two RBIs and a run; and Fabre, 1-for-3, a double, two RBIs and a run.
Fabre suffered the loss. In two innings, he surrendered eight runs — seven earned — on six hits with one walk.
Patterson left 11 runners on base in the loss.
Patterson (3-3) will return to action Saturday at Hanson’s tournament when it takes on Loreauville in a 3 p.m. contest at Hanson.
Also, Patterson’s game Tuesday against St. James has been moved up a day to Monday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Patterson High.
Berwick falls to
Covenant Christian
Covenant Christian scored a combined nine runs in the final two innings of its contest with Berwick Thursday for a 9-6 victory in first-day action at Berwick’s Panther Classic.
Trailing 3-0 heading into the top of the sixth, Covenant Christian plated seven runs in the top of the sixth for a 7-3 lead.
The Lions added two more runs in the top of the seventh for a 9-3 lead.
Berwick plated three runs in its final at bat.
Andrew Askew, one of five pitchers used, suffered the loss. In 0.1 innings, he surrendered three earned runs on one hit with two walks.
Nick Mayon started for Berwick, and in five innings, he surrendered an earned run on three hits with five strikeouts.
Offensively, Berwick outhit Covenant Christian, 12-8.
Tanner Caldwell led the squad with a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs. Other top hitters included Cody Roberie, 2-for-4, two RBIs; Kyle Pitre, 2-for-3, a double; Logan Angeron, 2-for-5; and Cameron Wiley, 1-for-3, a double and two RBIs.
Berwick (2-4) will return to action today in its tournament when it meets Catholic High-New Iberia in an 8 p.m. contest. On Saturday, Berwick will face Lutcher at 10 a.m. and Brusly at 4 p.m.
CCHS sweeps doubleheader
at Vandebilt
Central Catholic swept a doubleheader Thursday at Vandebilt Catholic’s tournament, defeating Terrebonne, 9-4, and Vandebilt Catholic, 7-2.
Against Terrebonne, Central Catholic jumped out to a 7-0 after the top of the third, plating three runs in the first and four more in the third.
While Terrebonne cut its deficit to 7-4 in the bottom of the third, the Eagles plated single runs in the fourth and fifth for the final margin.
Central Catholic outhit Terrebonne, 10-5. The Eagles had four doubles, one triple and a home run.
However, they left eight runners on base.
Stefano Guarisco and Greg Leger led the offense. Guarisco finished 4-for-5 with a double, a triple, two runs and a stolen base. Leger was 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs. Other top contributors included Mitchell Lemoine, 1-for-3, a double, two RBIs and two runs; Patrick Barron, 1-for-3, a double and two RBIs; Samuel Guarisco, 1-for-3, a double, an RBI and a run; and Drake Angeron, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Barron earned the win. In five innings, he surrendered four earned runs on three hits with five walks and fanned nine.
He and reliever Thomas Mire combined to surrender five hits and strikeout 11.
In the nightcap against Vandebilt Catholic, the Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third before Central Catholic plated three runs in the top of the fourth and four more in the top of the fifth for a 7-1 lead. Vandebilt Catholic added a run in the bottom of the seventh for the final margin.
Blake Hidalgo earned the win. In six innings, he surrendered an earned run on nine hits with one walk, two hit batters and fanned five.
Vandebilt outhit Central Catholic 9-6, but walked seven batters and hit one batter.
Thomas Garber led Central Catholic with a 2-for-3 performance with two doubles, an RBI and two runs. Other top hitters included Lemoine, 2-for-4, an RBI and two runs; Drake Angeron, 1-for-3, two RBIs; and Blake Hidalgo, an RBI.
Central Catholic (5-1) will return to action Monday when it travels to face North Vermilion at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in a 5:30 p.m. contest. North Vermilion was a Class 3A quarterfinalist in 2015.
Morgan City falls to Brusly
The Morgan City High School Tigers fell to Brusly, 6-1, Thursday in opening day action of the Panther Classic at Tiger Diamond in Morgan City.
No individual stats were available for Morgan City (1-4).
The Tigers will continue tournament play today as they play a doubleheader at Tiger Diamond. The Tigers will face St. James at 6 p.m. and E.D. White at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Morgan City will face Lutcher at 2 p.m.
