A 23-year-old Morgan City woman, who pleaded to conspiracy to commit burglary for her role in an alleged December 2014 beating and robbery, has been sentenced to three years of probation, according to St. Mary Parish Clerk of Court records.
Mariah Ann Grimes of Morgan City was sentenced March 23 to three years of supervised probation and ordered to pay restitution to the victim in the amount of medical bills to be determined at a restitution hearing June 16, clerk of court records stated.
District Judge Paul deMahy initially sentenced Grimes to seven years in prison at hard labor, but then suspended the jail time, according to court records.
Grimes pleaded guilty March 14 to conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and had the remaining charges of attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery against her dismissed as part of a plea deal.
Morgan City police arrested Grimes on the charges of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated burglary in connection with a Dec. 14, 2014, attack of a 33-year-old man at his Levee Road home that left him with lacerations and cuts on different parts of his body, police said.
According to an affidavit, the victim told Grimes he had sold his mobile home for $4,500, and she asked him the address of his home, even though she was already familiar with the location.
Early the next morning, the victim heard a loud knocking on his door, and the woman on the other side identified herself as Grimes, the affidavit said. The victim didn’t open the door. But someone forced the door open, and six men entered the home, the affidavit said. The suspects demanded the location of the money and attacked the victim, the affidavit said.
The victim gave up the location of the money, at which time the suspects took the money and left, the affidavit said. The victim stated that the suspects stole about $3,000 during the incident.
Geronimo Ramirez Martinez, Ossiel Munoz Perez, Jesus Munoz Perez and Zenen Vasquez-Chavez were also all arrested in the same case on the charges of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated burglary.
Martinez pleaded guilty Nov. 23, 2015, to the charge of accessory after the fact to aggravated second-degree battery. Vasquez-Chavez pleaded guilty Jan. 19 to conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary. Ossiel Perez and Jesus Perez still face charges in the case.
