Inmates accused of attack at parish jail

Two inmates were charged Wednesday with subjecting another St. Mary Parish jail inmate to a beating that stemmed from an April 2 incident, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Edward L. Williams, 40, of Amelia, was additionally charged with second-degree battery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday.
—Brian H. Henderson, 33, of Berwick, was additionally charged with aggravated second-degree battery at 1:58 p.m. Wednesday.
The St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center security team along with the Criminal Investigation Division conducted an investigation into a battery involving three inmates that occurred April 2. Detectives collected evidence that following an argument Williams and Henderson repeatedly struck another inmate in the head and face.
The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment and has been released from the medical facility. Williams and Henderson remain incarcerated with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 31 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Subrena Henry, 55, of the 400 block of Camille Drive in Patterson, at 11:34 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of simple battery. A deputy was dispatched to a complaint of a possible battery at a business in Bayou Vista. During the course of the investigation, the deputy collected statements that Henry grabbed the back of a male subject’s shirt. Henry was released on a summons to appear in court July 25.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Antanacio Guerrero, 33, of Vivian Street in Morgan City, at 11:33 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law – drug free zone, possession of firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, no turn signal and expired driver’s license.
A patrol officer observed a vehicle at the intersection of Duke Street and Federal Avenue fail to use a turn signal while turning on to Federal Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Guerrero, made the officer suspicious that he may be involved in illegal drug activity by his behavior.
Guerrero gave the officer consent to search his vehicle. The officer located inside the vehicle a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, suspected marijuana and a 9 mm firearm. The area in which the vehicle was stopped was near an elementary school, which is a drug free zone. Guerrero was jailed.
—Gersson S. Viniegra, 31, of Catherine Street in Patterson, at 6:29 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of no turn signal, driving under suspension and on a warrant for failure to appear.
—Sheila M. Sons, 30, of O Street in Patterson, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of legend drug cyclobenzaprine.
Narcotics investigators observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal at the intersection of La. 70 and Victor II Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Viniegra, had a suspended driver’s license and also had an active warrant for the 16th Judicial District Court.
The passenger in the vehicle, Sons, gave officers consent to search her purse, which had two pills identified as cyclobenzaprine and a glass pipe commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics. Both Viniegra and Sons were jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Lennis Paray, 31, of Fourth Street in Berwick at 7:51 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of remaining where forbidden. Bail was set at $300. Paray also had a hold for probation and parole.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
