Sheriff: Man booked on warrants after chase

A 29-year-old Morgan City man was booked on warrants after fleeing on foot from St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives in Baldwin when they tried to make a traffic stop, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Fred P. Kenner, 29, of the 1000 block of Grace Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of resisting an officer by flight, criminal trespass and littering, and on Morgan City police warrants for failure to appear on the charge of battery on a police officer, for failure to appear on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and for probation violation.
Narcotics detectives patrolling Baldwin observed the driver of a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign on Martin Luther King Road and initiated a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop. Detectives followed the vehicle to John Street where a passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The driver of the vehicle then drove away from the area. A detective pursued the passenger, a male subject, through several yards, and observed the subject drop items as he fled.
Following a short foot chase, the detective apprehended the subject and detained him pending further investigation. The subject was identified as Kenner. Detectives found that he was wanted by Morgan City police on active warrants. Kenner was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 28 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Roseanna B. Lodrigue, 64, of the 400 block of Leo Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:54 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of hit-and-run driving. A deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run incident at a business on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista.
During the investigation, the deputy identified the suspected hit and run driver as Lodrigue and collected evidence that she struck another vehicle before driving away from the area. Lodrigue was released on summons to appear in court July 25.
—Darrel Riggins Jr., 26, of the 1200 block of Columbus Avenue in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:27 a.m. today on the charge of disturbing the peace by intoxication. For the second time that evening, deputies responded to a residence in Bayou Vista in reference to Riggins causing a disturbance.
Upon arrival, deputies heard yelling coming from inside the home. A deputy made contact with Riggins and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. During the subsequent investigation, the deputy learned that Riggins was causing a disturbance. Riggins was jailed with bail set at $500.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Sydney V. Bassa, 21, of Chestnut Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:04 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of lorazepam, introducing contraband into a penal institution and on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of careless operation of a motor vehicle and criminal trespassing.
Officers located Bassa in the area of Federal Avenue near Bowman Street where she was arrested on active warrants held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Bassa was transported to the Morgan City Jail where a thorough search was conducted when officers located suspected marijuana and lorazepam. Bassa was jailed.
—Brandon Robinson, 19, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:34 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of careless operation of a motor vehicle.
Robinson was located by officers in the area of Walnut Drive near McDermott Drive and arrested on a 6th Ward Morgan City Court warrant. Robinson was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Minh Chau, 33, of Sugar Cane Street in Houma, was arrested at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with domestic abuse battery in the presence of a juvenile. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
