Hanson explodes by Southern Lab

BATON ROUGE _ No. 5 Hanson Memorial coasted to a 25-0 triumph over the No. 21 Southern Lab Kittens in five innings in the second round of the Class A baseball playoffs here late Monday.
The Hanson Memorial Tigers scored 25 runs while totaling 16 hits with 17 RBIs.
Hanson dominated from the first inning, taking a 15-0 advantage while supporting four pitchers. Hanson struck for two more runs in the second frame, one in the third and seven additional runs in the top half of the fifth frame for the 25-0 triumph.
Four Hanson pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the Tigers cruised into the advanced to the 1A state quarterfinals with the huge victory.
Hanson (20-8) will take on tonight’s survivor of the St. Mary’s-Catholic High of Point Coupee contest in the quarterfinals later this week.
Hanson hurlers John Guienze, Brennan Young, Evan Thibodeaux and Josh Sanchez all combined on a one hitter. Evan Thibodeaux earned the mound victory after working two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts and one walk.
Guienze started on the hill and fanned all three batters he faced before giving way to Brennan Young, who worked one frame, not allowing a run nor a hit nor a walk with one strikeout. Thibodaux hurled two scoreless frames, striking out four while giving up no runs on one hit with one walk. Sanchez pitched one scoreless inning, not surrendering a run nor a hit nor a walk with one strikeout.
Hanson struck for 15 runs on 11 hits in the first inning. In the second frame, the Tigers scored two runs on one hit while scoring one run on one hit in the third inning before tallying seven runs on three hits in the fourth frame for the 25-0 win.

Hanson will host the winner of tonight’s St. Mary’s-Catholic High of Point Coupee game later this week for an opportunity to advance to the state semifinals.
