Two local men arrested on cocaine, pot charges

A 21-year-old Morgan City man was arrested Tuesday after narcotics detectives found cocaine and marijuana in his car, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said.

—Morris V.L . Garrison, 21, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:17 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of opened vehicle door obstructing traffic, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, transactions involving drug proceeds, and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.

—Donnell Williams, 19, of Trevino Street in Berwick, was arrested at 9:17 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear for possession of marijuana.

Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Detectives observed a vehicle parked on the side of the roadway of Shannon Street near Egle Street. Investigators noticed that the door of the vehicle was open into the roadway obstructing traffic.

An investigatory stop was conducted and investigators spoke with occupants of the vehicle, Williams and Garrison. Investigators were told that Garrison was the driver of the vehicle and had left the door open.

During conversations with Garrison and Williams, investigators observed what they suspected was crack cocaine inside the vehicle. Reports indicate Garrison told investigators the vehicle also contained marijuana.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and investigators retrieved the suspected cocaine and marijuana.

A large amount of U.S. currency was located on Garrison, believed to have been obtained from illegal narcotics sales.

The location of the incident was within the area of a designated drug-free zone in violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws. A warrants check revealed that the 6th Warrant Morgan City Court held an active arrest warrant for Williams.

Both Garrison and Williams were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated.

Blair reported the following arrests:

—Jose L. Lopez, 57, of Wise Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for probation violation.

Lopez was arrested in the Morgan City Court regarding an active arrest warrant held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Lopez was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.

—Shawn B. Durkins , 22, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 5:42 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of improper turning, driving under suspension and warrants for parole and probation violations.

Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Detectives conducted a traffic stop in regard to a vehicle that was observed making an improper turn near Wren and Canary streets.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Durkins , was found to have a suspended driver’s license.

A warrants check revealed that the 32nd Judicial District Court held two active arrest warrants on Durkins. Durkins was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where Durkins was booked and incarcerated.

—Scott Reid, 54, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2 p.m. Tuesday on a charge for contempt of court.

Reid was arrested in the 6th Ward Morgan City Court during court proceedings for contempt of court. Reid was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:

—Michael Falgout, 30, of Myrtle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:51 p.m. Tuesday on charges for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and license plate light required. Falgout was released on bail set at $3,750.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 30 complaints and reported no arrests in east St. Mary Parish.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
