Sheriff: Patterson man struck two women in argument

A 28-year-old Patterson man was charged with domestic abuse battery Monday after authorities determined he struck two women during an argument, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Steve P. Scallen, 28, of the 1500 block of U.S. 90 West in Patterson, was arrested at 8:31 p.m. Monday on the charges of two counts of domestic abuse battery.
A deputy received information from the Patterson Police Department regarding a complaint they received of a battery that occurred at a business on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area. Patterson police officers located the people involved at another location in the Patterson area.
With the officers’ assistance, a sheriff’s deputy collected evidence indicating that Scallen struck two women who were arguing with each other, Hebert said. The deputy observed bruises on one of the victims as a result of the battery. Scallen was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 43 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—A juvenile male, 15, of Berwick, was arrested at 11:51 a.m. Monday on the charge of theft. A school resource officer received a complaint of a theft that occurred at the St. Mary Parish Alternative Program school in Verdunville.
During the investigation, the officer found evidence that the juvenile male stole over $200 in cash from a teacher’s purse in a classroom, Hebert said. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings. The investigation is ongoing.
—Joseph P. Madise Jr., 18, of the 400 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 12:11 a.m. today on the charge of criminal damage to property. A deputy investigating a complaint of possible property damage found that Madise damaged an interior door at a Bayou Vista residence where he was staying. Madise was jailed with bail set at $500.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Johnathan Priestley, 22, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with smoking prohibited in a jail facility.
Priestly, who was incarcerated in the Morgan City jail, was booked on the warrant. He remains in jail.
—Donald A. Chenevert, 46, of Main Street in Houma, was arrested at 4:36 a.m. today on the charge of resisting an officer by giving false information.
An officer was dispatched to a convenience store on La. 182 in regard to a subject trying to sell jewelry inside the store. During the investigation, the officer spoke with a subject who identified himself to the officer as Gary Brown.
As the officer continued the investigation, police learned that the man had given the officer a false name, and he was later identified as Chenevert.
A warrants check revealed that the Houma Police Department held an active warrant for Chenevert. Chenevert was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Donshea Amos, 28, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2 p.m. Monday on the charge of domestic abuse battery. Amos was accused of committing a battery on a woman in a vehicle while driving on La. 182. Amos was jailed with no bail set.
