(Updated) Police: Rear crashes snarl traffic Friday
Three rear-end crashes, which included eight vehicles, caused police to reroute west traffic for about an hour Friday on the U.S. 90 bridge in Berwick. But only one person had minor injuries in the crash, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.
Authorities responded to three separate wrecks at 5:08 p.m. Friday in the west lanes of the U.S. 90 bridge at the Berwick exit, Richard said. The first crash involved three vehicles. A 1992 Chevy Silverado driven by Christopher Chauvin, 19, of Gray, rear-ended a 2008 Mercury Marquis, Richard said. A 1998 Audi was also involved the wreck, Richard said.
Another wreck occurred when a 1994 GMC Sonoma, driven by Sheila Winters, 59, of Morgan City, rear-ended a 2009 Pontiac. One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries in that crash, Richard said.
A third crash happened when 1995 Ford F150 pickup truck, driven by Charles Delaune, 60, of Patterson, struck an unknown vehicle. A 2010 Ford F150 was also involved in this crash, Richard said.
Chauvin, Winters and Delaune were all cited for careless operation with a crash in the three accidents. Morgan City police helped divert westbound traffic to the La. 182 bridge while authorities cleared the scene, Richard said.
