Morgan City, Franklin earn tourney wins

The Morgan City All-Stars and the Franklin All-Stars notched victories in the opening round of the 2016 District 3 2-A Tournament Wednesday at Caffery Park.
In the opener, Morgan City won over Thibodaux while Franklin toppled St. Mary Central in the nightcap.
Play in the round-robin format continues tonight with Morgan City and Franklin returning to action. Morgan City (1-0) will square off against Patterson at 5:30 p.m. before Thibodaux takes on Franklin (1-0) at 6:45 p.m.
Two games will be on tap for Friday with St. Mary Central taking on Thibodaux in the first game followed by Patterson and Franklin playing in the nightcap.
Four games will be played on Saturday with SMC and Morgan City squaring off at 10 a.m. before Thibodaux and Patterson battle at 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m., Franklin will play Morgan City before the final game pits SMC against Patterson at 2:30 p.m.
The top two finishers from the District 3-2A Tournament will advance to the State Tournament which will be held in West Monroe, Louisiana July 7 through July 9.
