Company eyes WSM Port acreage

A company is conducting a feasibility study for possible lease of over 400 acres at the Port of West St. Mary.
Executive Director David Allain said Tuesday that Daichem USA LLC inquired about possibly locating a chemical site at the port. The exact nature of the plant was not disclosed.
They’re interested in 428 acres of rail and water access, Allain said.
The port had the property appraised and forwarded to the company.
The port commission is also addressing issues with its water system, where a 14-inch main water line is feeding residential customers. There are plans to begin a flushing program, and a meeting with water experts to solve higher levels of certain compounds.
Allain also reported that rights of way are being obtained for a pump to help drain land at the industrial park site on the Charenton Navigation and Drainage Canal.
