(Updated) One arrested in Amelia shooting; two charged in robberies

A 24-year-old Morgan City man was booked Saturday on an attempted murder charge after he allegedly shot a man Saturday morning during an armed robbery at an Amelia home.

At 6:17 a.m. Saturday, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery at a home in the 800 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia. As deputies responded, dispatch received a second call from Teche Regional Medical Center regarding a male victim being treated for a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
During the preliminary investigation, deputies collected evidence connecting the victim at the hospital to a shooting that occurred at the home on Lake Palourde Road.
Detectives investigating the complaints found evidence that Dion Maize, 24, approached several people, pointed a handgun at them, and demanded money. During the confrontation, Maize fired the weapon. He then fled the scene.
Detectives located Maize at a home on South Railroad Avenue in Morgan City.
Maize, of the 700 block of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:17 a.m. Saturday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.
The victim was treated and released from the hospital Saturday morning.
Detectives found evidence connecting Maize to another armed robbery that reportedly occurred early Thursday morning at a home in the 3000 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia.
As a result, Maize was additionally charged at 4:49 p.m. Saturday with home invasion and a second count of armed robbery. No bail is set. Both investigations are ongoing.
Investigators also discovered evidence linking, Therold L. James, 32, of the 300 block of Teche Road in Bayou Vista, to the second robbery at the home in the 3000 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia.
James was booked at 8:40 a.m. Sunday on a warrant charging him with armed robbery and home invasion. Detectives obtained a warrant for James’ arrest, an, on Sunday morning, a Patterson police officer who was aware of the warrant recognized James and arrested him. James was subsequently transported to the parish jail for booking. The investigation is ongoing.
