Louisiana splits games in Laurel, Miss.; Franklin-based squad will play today at 5:45 p.m.

The Franklin 10U All-Stars finished 1-1 this weekend at the AAA Dixie Youth World Series in Laurel, Mississippi.
While Franklin, now known as Team Louisiana, fell in its opener to Bushnell, Florida, 14-4, Saturday, Louisiana rebounded with a 6-5 victory against host Laurel, Mississippi, Sunday.
Louisiana will return to action today when it faces North Carolina’s state champion in a 5:45 p.m. contest at Laurel Ford Field in Laurel.
Complete statistics were not available from Louisiana’s game against Florida state champion, Bushnell.
In Louisiana’s victory against Laurel, the Louisiana state champions won in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the sixth inning.
With the score tied at 5, Reid Lovell connected on a single to bring home Nicolas Mire for the game-winning run.
Ethan Judice earned the win in relief of starter Dylan Inzina. Judice pitched 1.2 innings and surrendered two runs – both earned – on four hits with two walks, one hit batter and three strikeouts. Inzina pitched the game’s first 4.1 innings for Louisiana. He surrendered three runs – all earned – on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
The game was back and forth as Laurel took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second before Louisiana responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Louisiana led 5-2 after three innings, but Laurel rallied in the top of the fifth with three runs to tie the score at 5.
Louisiana outhit Laurel, 12-10.
Alonzo Alexander led Louisiana with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, a stolen base and a run. Other top offensive contributors included Lovell, 2-for-3, an RBI; Mire, 2-for-3, a stolen base and two runs; Carter Faucheux, 1-for-1, a double, two stolen bases and a run; Loren Wells., 1-for-1, an RBI, two stolen bases and a run; Landon Walden, 1-for-2, an RBI; Dylan Steiner, 1-for-2; Judice and Inzina, each 1-for-3; and John David Hidalgo, a run and two stolen bases.
Louisiana’s opponent today, North Carolina’s state champion, dropped its opener Saturday to Mississippi’s state champion, 13-6, before rebounding to defeat Arkansas’ state champion, 14-4, in an elimination game Sunday afternoon.
In Majors (12U) World Series action of local interest in Laurel, Mississippi, Louisiana’s state champion, Ville Platte, dropped its opener to host Laurel, Mississippi, 4-0, Saturday.
However, the Louisiana state champs bounced back Sunday to eliminate Virginia’s state champion, 11-1.
Louisiana also will play North Carolina today at 5:45 p.m. at Howards Field in another elimination contest.
