Local student goes to Bahamas

Amaya Renee Douglas, a 14-year-old ninth grader at Humble High School in Texas with a 4.0 GPA, was the only student in her school district chosen to visit Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas last July. She is the daughter of Shateeka Landry Douglas, Franklin High School class of 1995, grand-daughter of Vicky Landry of Franklin and Ricky Landry Sr. of Houston, Texas. “My purpose of the visit was to take in the sustainability and work with different scientists on many marine type projects,” Amaya said. “The people there are very friendly. I experienced jumping off two cliffs and swam in Exuma Sound which has a maximum depth of 1600-2000 meters. They have an amazing Aquaponics Lab.” She said the importance of maintaining her GPA is her primary objective. As for career choice she is considering Industrial and Occupational Psychologist or Anesthesiologist while exploring other new adventures. “Maybe during the next months, I will be returning for further study during my sophomore and junior years high school years, but as for now I will focus on my upcoming curriculum,” she said.
