IVA “SAM” ADDISON

May 20, 1944 to August 28, 2016
Iva Watts Addison passed away at home on Sunday, August 28, 2016 surrounded by her family following a courageous, three year battle against a rare form of cancer, Leiomyosarcoma. She was 72 years old. Following cremation there will be a private family memorial service.
A native of Columbia, MS, Iva relocated to Franklin, in 1967. A resident of St. Mary Parish for 49 years, she truly loved the State of Louisiana and called Franklin the prettiest town she had ever seen.
Iva is survived by her husband of 45 years, Rupert Addison, her devoted caretaker throughout her illness; her daughter, Debbie Richard Deslatte and husband, Buck; her son, Michael Richard; her grandchildren, “My Angels,” as she liked to say and whom they called “My GaGa,” James Deslatte and wife, Nicole; Derek Deslatte and wife, Senette; Samantha Richard and Rachelle Richard; her great grandchildren, who also loved their GaGa, Collin, Madelyn, Chloe, Bailey and Ivy; two siblings, her brother, Elvin Watts; and her sister, Sue Nell Baughman; and her many wonderful nieces, nephews and good friends.
Iva was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis L. and Ethel Holmes Watts; daughter in law, Linda Carline Richard; three sisters, Adean Allen, Ruby Jewell Ezzell, and Tressie Lee Bass; and three brothers, Jack Watts, James “Jim” Watts, and Neville Watts.
Known to so many as “Sam” the waitress, her love of waiting tables began 49 years ago. Her welcoming smile, energetic walk, quick wit, and sassiness always left you wanting to see her again. Always happy while getting ready for work and although tired when the shift was over, she couldn’t wait to replay her day for her family. That love of hosting did not stop at The Forest. Iva loved to entertain visitors at her home, whether you were stopping by for a minute or staying a few days, you left wanting to visit again soon.
The family would like to thank all of you who reached out to her through phone calls, visits, cards and Facebook during the past three years. Please know they were treasured moments that made her days brighter. She loves all of you. Also, thank you to Hospice of Acadiana for all of the skills, guidance and compassion extended to Iva and her family.
