Franklin Hornets fall to Loreauville Tigers

Shae Lee rushed for two touchdowns, leading the Loreauville Tigers to a 26-18 season opening win over the Franklin Hornets Friday at J. C. Dry Stadium.
Lee, who rushed for a 14-yard scoring jaunt in the second quarter, added his second score on a 26-yard TD in the third quarter to send the Tigers out front by a 26-6 advantage over the Hornets.
Loreauville (1-0) opened the scoring at 8-0 in the initial period when Bryson Broussard hauled in a 12-yard scoring strike from Zy Alexander. Broussard had his number called on the two-point conversion, giving the Loreauville Tigers an 8-0 lead over the Hornets in the first period.
Lee gave the Tigers the 14-0 lead in the second stanza with his 14-yard scamper before Alexander hit paydirt from 1-yard out, lifting the Tigers to a 20-0 lead in the second period.
Franklin (0-1) dented the scoring column when quarterback Zariq Perry broke free on a 33-yard scoring jaunt in second quarter as the Hornets closed the gap at 20-6. Perry, who led the Hornets on three carries for 75 yards on the 33-yard TD scamper, also completed 4 of 10 passes for 80 yards.
After Franklin trimmed Loreauville’s lead to 20-6, Lee found the endzone on a 26-yard run, extending the Tigers’ lead to 26-6 in the third period.
Franklin retaliated with touchdowns by Lunden Toussaint and Washington, drawing within eight points of the Tigers at 26-18 in the fourth quarter. Toussaint scored on a one-yard TD in the third quarter prior to Washington hauling in a 65-yard scoring strike from Perry in the fourth period.
Perry finished as the Franklin’s leading rusher with three carries for 75 yards, including the 33-yard TD. Devynn Armstead rushed 15 times for 53 yards while Avontrae Perro ran nine times for 50 yards with John Boyd picked up two yards on one carry and Toussaint ran for 1-yard with one TD.
Shae Lee led Loreauville with 12 carries for 65 yards and two TDs while Broussard ran seven times for 56 yards. Alexander rushed eight times for 15 yards and one score.
Perry connected on 4 of 10 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown for Franklin while Alexander hit on 8 of 17 passes for 117 yards and one interception.
Washington led Franklin in receiving with 2 catches for 75 yards and one touchdown while Perro finished with two catches for 42 yards and Lamar Joseph hauled in one pass for 5 yards.
Broussard was the Tigers’ top receiver with for catches for 31 yards while Jacobs made two catches for 60 yards while while and will take Thibodeaux had two catches for 17 yards with Williams grabbing two passes for 18 yards.
North Vermilion 48, Hanson 8
The North Vermilion Patriots rolled to a 48-8 win over the Hanson Memorial Tigers Friday at McCloskey Field in the 2016 season opener.
Ryan Broussard ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns to power the Patriots to the victory.
North Vermilion (1-0) jumped outfront by a score of 7-0 on Broussard’s 11-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Charlie Gallusser grabbed an 11-yard pass from Garrett Becker before Connor Dupuy raced 87 yards on a punt return, lifting NVHS to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Broussard and Gallusser added touchdown runs of 17 and 15 yards respectively to hand the Patriots a 34-0 lead at the half.
Creed Rudd scored on a 42-yard run as North Vermilion moved ahead by a 41-0 advantage in the third quarter.
Hanson’s Luke Rodriguez hauled in a 15-yard pass from Luke Lancon as the Tigers cut into the Patriots’ lead at 42-8 in the third quarter.
North Vermilion’s Darius Gilliam scored the final touchdown on the night, sending NVHS the 48-8 season-opening victory.
Hanson (0-1) will travel to play the Delcambre Panthers on Friday at 7 p.m.
Grand Lake 44, Centerville 27
GRAND LAKE _ The Grand Lake Tigers scored a hard-fought 44-27 season-opening victory over the Centerville Bulldogs here Friday.
Centerville (0-1) was led by Matt LeBourgeois who rushed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
De’Andre Kinchens also helped the Bulldogs with 107 yards and one score.
Grand Lake (1-0) rallied for a pair of touchdowns in the second half, posting the 44-27 win over Centerville.
Centerville will travel to face North Central on Friday.
Beau Chene 14, West St. Mary 6
BALDWIN _ Daylin Richard scored a touchdown in the fourth-quarter as the West St. Mary Wolfpack came up on the short end of a 14-6 loss to the Beau Chene Gators here Friday at Wolfpack Stadium.
Richard scored on a 3-yard touchdown from WSM quarterback Dondre Johnson.
West St. Mary (0-1) will travel to face the Northwest High School Raiders on Thursday at 7 p.m.
