(Updated) Authorities still searching for escaped inmate; Possible Charenton sighting not confirmed

As of Friday morning, authorities were still searching for escaped Assumption Parish inmate Drake Domangue. He escaped custody Wednesday while being transported to a mental health treatment facility in the Morgan City area.
On Thursday, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators were working a lead that Domangue, 44, was possibly seen in the Charenton area, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said.
Investigators are still looking into that tip and haven’t yet confirmed the sighting, Landry said this morning.
Law enforcement officials are calling on everyone in the area to “keep an eye out” for Domangue and contact local law enforcement if they see or find anything possibly relating to his whereabouts, Landry said.
The Morgan City Police Department, St. Mary and Assumption Parish sheriff’s offices, as well as many other agencies are continuing efforts to locate Domangue.
Domangue was being held in Assumption Parish on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, resisting arrest by force or violence, narcotics related offenses and numerous traffic violations. His last known address is the 100 block of Santiago Street in Houma.
Morgan City police responded to a complaint late Wednesday morning of an inmate who escaped from Assumption Parish deputies in the area of Roderick and Allison streets.
Wyandotte Elementary, Morgan City Health Care and Maison Jardin were placed on lockdown Wednesday while authorities searched for Domangue. That area was taken off lockdown the same day.
Domangue is also wanted by Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes for felony charges along with parole violations. Domangue should be considered dangerous and a flight risk, authorities said.
Police had increased patrol efforts during the night and will continue to do so until either it is confirmed he has left the area or has been captured.
Anyone with information on Domangue’s whereabouts should call 911, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-369-2912, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-384-1622 or the Morgan City Police Department at 985-384-2310.
