Two jailed on gun, drug charges

Two Houma men were arrested on marijuana, methamphetamine and gun charges, said Morgan City Police Chief James Blair in a news release.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Damain Turner, 37, of Houma, was arrested at 5:43 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession of marijuana first offense, possession of meth-amphetamine, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law drug free zone and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Percy K. Howard, 23, of Houma, was arrested at 5:43 p.m. Friday on the charges of illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute over 28 grams, transactions involving proceeds from controlled dangerous substance activity and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives with the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division along with the assistance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop in the area of La. 182 and Myrtle Street, in which information was received involving illegal drug activity.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Howard, and the passenger, Turner, were asked to exit the vehicle.
A pat down was done on both individuals and located on Turner was suspected marijuana and suspected methamphetamine. During the course of the investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted.
Items located inside the vehicle were a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun, a large amount of suspected methamphetamine packaged for sale, U.S. currency over $400 and items used to smoke illegal narcotics.
Both Howard and Turner were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
—Sahikumar Patel, 28, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:02 a.m. Saturday on a charge for disturbing the peace by use of offensive language.
Officers were dispatched to a local business on La. 182 in regard to a disturbance. Officers arrived and came into contact with Patel. Patel was involved in a verbal altercation with another individual.
Patel was asked several times by officers to calm down and stop using profanities. He continued. Patel was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
—Patrick W. Miller, 51, of Belanger Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:25 a.m. Sunday on the charges of simple battery and possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles.
Officers responded to a residence on Sixth Street about a disturbance. Officers arrived and detained Miller. According to witnesses’ statements, Miller began arguing with another individual.
The argument escalated and Miller punched the individual in the facial area. Officers did notice signs of a battery on the victim.
While talking to Miller, officers noticed an open bottle of an alcoholic beverage inside of Miller’s vehicle. Miller was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
—Dunia M. Sorgando, 36, of Village Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:16 a.m. Sunday on a charge for general speed law, stop sign violation and no driver’s license.
A patrolling officer in the area of Victor II Boulevard and David Drive observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at a stop sign. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Sorgando, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license.
A computer check revealed that Sorgando did not have a valid driver’s license. Sorgando was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
—Jasmine Washington, 32, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:06 a.m. Sunday on a charge for theft of goods.
Officers responded to a local business on Brashear Avenue in regard to a theft. Officers arrived and were given a description of a female that ran out of the store with unpaid items.
Officers located the female fitting the description in the area of Willard Street along with items taken from the store, valued at $25.14.
Washington was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 110 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Alexander O. Mallo, 27, of Southwest Fifth Street in Yukon, Oklahoma, was arrested at 2:34 a.m. Thursday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated third offense, driving left of center, no driver’s license, and failure to transfer title.
A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a vehicle swerve across the center line twice and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Mallo, and learned that he was driving the vehicle with an expired driver’s license and with expired registration that was in another subject’s name.
While speaking with Mallo, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and person. The deputy administered a field sobriety test. Mallo conducted the test poorly. Mallo submitted to a blood test, the results of which are pending. Following the investigation, the deputy transported Mallo to the parish jail for booking. Mallo was released on a $1,500 bond.
—Jonathan Brown Sr., 57, of Clarke Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:42 p.m. Friday on the charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and disturbing the peace.
Deputies responded to re-ports of a subject with a shotgun who was making threats to people in the area of Clarke Road and Canal Street in Bayou Vista.
Deputies located the sub-ject, identified as Brown, at his residence and detained him pending further investigation.
Deputies then gathered evidence indicating that Brown went to another residence in the area with the weapon and began banging on the door of the home while yelling pro-fanities.
Deputies also found evi-dence that Brown pointed the weapon at a male subject who was riding a bicycle in the area. Brown was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Ciara Percle, 30, of North First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:28 p.m. Friday on a charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy responding to a request to remove a subject from a residence in the Patterson area made contact with Percle.
While speaking with several subjects on scene, the deputy learned that Percle had drug paraphernalia in her purse. The deputy received consent to search the purse and located a syringe used to inject methamphetamine.
Percle was released on a summons to appear in court Dec. 14.
—Brett Givens, 25, of Emy’s Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 1:54 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of schedule 1 drugs and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, transactions involving drug proceeds, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy responded to a request to remove a subject from a business on La. 182 in Bayou Vista and made contact with Givens. While speaking with him, the deputy located the two active warrants for his arrest. Givens was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Brandon Guidry, 31, of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 10:51 a.m. Saturday for no insurance and child passenger restraint violation.
A deputy observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed down Zenor Road. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Guidry, abruptly stopped the vehicle, and began speaking with the deputy.
While talking with Guidry, the deputy discovered that he was operating the vehicle without insurance. The deputy also observed a toddler in the rear seat of the vehicle without a child safety seat.
Guidry was released on a summons to appear in court Dec. 14.
—Dayna Breaux, 37, of Park Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:13 a.m. Sunday on a warrant from Iberia Parish for issuing worthless checks.
A deputy made contact with Breaux outside of a business in Bayou Vista. While speaking with Breaux, the deputy located the active warrant for her arrest. Breaux was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Lisa Guerrero, 34, of Vivian Street in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 1:15 p.m. Sunday for failure to report an accident, no insurance, and an expired driver’s license.
A deputy was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in Amelia. The deputy learned that the driver of a car sideswiped a vehicle. The driver of the car stopped briefly, then left the scene of the crash.
The deputy gave a description of the car to neighboring agencies and the suspect vehicle was located in Assumption Parish.
During the course of the investigation, the driver of the car, identified as Guerrero, admitted to be involved in the crash. The deputy also found that she was operating the vehicle without insurance and with an expired driver’s license. Guerrero was released on a summons to appear in court Dec. 14.
—Michael Gonzales, 28, of Ditch Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 10 p.m. Sunday on the charges of criminal trespass, two counts of resisting an officer, disturbing the peace profanity and a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal damage to property.
A deputy was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person on Friendship Alley in Amelia. The deputy located a male subject matching the description given.
When the deputy identified himself as a sheriff’s deputy and requested that the man speak with him, the subject fled on foot. The deputy located the subject hiding behind a vehicle.
The subject, identified as Gonzales, was detained. The deputy collected evidence that Gonzales was trespass-ing.
During the investigation, Gonzales attempted to pull away from the deputy and yelled profanities, causing a disturbance in the neighbor-hood. The deputy also located an active warrant for his arrest. Gonzales was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Cheryl Jones, 57, of Broussard Street in Patter-son, was arrested at 12:46 a.m. Monday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
A deputy was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on La. 182 in Bayou Vista. While speaking with one of the drivers, identified as Jones, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and person.
The deputy performed a field sobriety test. Jones conducted the test poorly and later registered a 0.108 grams percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. Jones was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Leroy Davis III, 25, of Adams Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:27 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21.
A deputy made contact with Davis on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista.
While speaking with him, the deputy located an active warrant for his arrest. Davis was transported to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $2,500.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Tina Dekerlegand, 40, of Russo Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:42 p.m. Friday on the charges of driving while intoxicated (refusal), resisting officer, and two headlights required. Dekerlegand remains jailed. No bail is set.
—Kristin Scallan, 32, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:51 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for simple burglary. Scallan remains jailed. No bail is set.
—Steve Scallan Jr., 29, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:34 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for simple burglary. Scallan remains jailed. No bail is set.
—Shamus Dardeau, 41, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:52 a.m. Sunday on warrants for failure to appear theft $500-$1,500 and probation and parole. Dardeau remains jailed. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
