Police: Man had cocaine in mouth, over $500 cash from drug sales

A 43-year-old Morgan City man was caught Thursday with suspected cocaine in his mouth and over $500 in cash believed to be derived from illegal drug sales, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Barron F. Kenner, 43, of First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:37 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws-drug free zone, obstruction of justice, resisting an officer, transactions involving drug proceeds, improper lane usage and no vehicle insurance.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle on U.S. 90 traveling out of its designated lane of travel. The vehicle exited U.S. 90 onto La. 70 where a traffic stop was conducted and the driver identified as Kenner. During a traffic investigation, Kenner was found to not have proper state required vehicle insurance.
Kenner’s behavior made the officer suspicious that he may be involved in illegal drug activity, Blair said. The officer observed a large bulge in Kenner’s mouth and instructed him to discard the bulge from his mouth, Blair said. Kenner then began to flee on foot, and police caught him Kenner moments later.
The object retrieved from Kenner’s mouth was identified as suspected crack cocaine, Blair said. Police also found over $500 in cash on Kenner, which officers believed to be obtained from the sales of illegal narcotics.
The location of the incident was within the area of a drug free zone in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws. Kenner was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Angela Campbell, 52, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the charge of theft.
Officers responded to a local grocery store no La. 182 in regard to a reported shoplifter. Police spoke with store management, who told officers that a woman was observed concealing several items from the store on her and was attempting to leave the store.
Police then located the woman, identified as Campbell. During an investigation, officers located several concealed items from the store on Campbell, Blair said. Campbell was jailed.
—Jasmine T. Durkins, 25, of St. Joseph Street in New Iberia, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging her with simple battery.
Officers located Durkins in City Court and arrested her on a warrant. The warrant was obtained from an investigation conducted by Morgan City Police of an incident reported July 15 of an alleged battery. Durkins was jailed.
—Jason A. Maxey, 37, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:12 a.m. Friday on the charges of speeding and driving under suspension.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on La. 182 at a high rate of speed. The officer clocked the vehicle at 52 mph in a 35 mph speed zone and stopped the vehicle. The driver was identified as Maxey, who had a suspended driver’s license. Maxey was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 40 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests:
—Eulalia McCoy, 21, of the 100 block of Vista Village Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:33 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of identity theft and theft of assets of an aged or disabled person.
McCoy was also charged on a warrant for failure to appear for resisting an officer by providing false information, no seat belt, improper child restraint, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
A correctional officer located the active warrants for McCoy who was being housed at the Morgan City Police Department jail on unrelated charges. Bail on the warrant charges is set at $2,000.
—Dean A. Daigle, 51, of the 600 block of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:35 a.m. Thursday on five warrants for failure to appear for a drug court status conference and failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. Daigle turned himself in to a deputy at his residence. Daigle was booked into parish jail with bail set at $500,000.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Jeremy Smith, 29, of Utah Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:31 p.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated fourth offense. Bail is set at $236.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
