Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville during an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Joseph A. Battaglia, a native and lifelong resident of Franklin who passed away at the age of 84 at his home on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, just three days shy of his 85th birthday. Father Ruben Primor will be the Celebrant for the Mass with Father Oneil Landry assisting. A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later time in the Franklin Cemetery.
Mr. Joe, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theo Battaglia; three children, Jodi Landry and her husband Jay, Cindy Pusateri and her husband Sammy, and Tony Battaglia and his wife Carol; six grandchildren, Samuel Pusateri, Trey Landry, Saron Battaglia, Matthew Pusateri, Joseph Battaglia III, and Christopher Battaglia; three siblings, Mary Bergeron, Rosie Lee Barrilleaux, and Donald Battaglia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Battaglia Sr. and Rosie Faraci Battaglia; and one brother, Anthony Battaglia Jr.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in Mr. Joe’s name to Hanson - St. John Schools, 903 Anderson St., Franklin, La., 70538.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Joe’s devoted caregivers, Shelby Concienne, Mel Morris, Demetria Burrell, Alice Randle, and Gwen Charatin, as well as to the staff of Journey Hospice, especially Dr. Steven S. McPherson, Amanda Brewer, and Janet Thomas. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
