Woman pleads guilty in road rage incident

Staff Report

A 25-year-old Morgan City woman has pleaded guilty in an alleged road rage case in which she waved a gun at another motorist while driving in Bayou Vista.
Angelle Renee Broussard, 25, of Morgan City, pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated assault with a firearm. She was sentenced to a suspended three-year prison term with three years of probation by Judge Curtis Sigur, Assistant District Attorney Anthony Saleme said.
On July 13, 2016, a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to U.S. 90 West in the Franklin area in regard to a woman inside a pickup truck waving a firearm, an affidavit said.
The deputy stopped the vehicle on U.S. 90 just past La. 3211 when the truck exited toward La. 83. The driver, Broussard, began moving toward the deputy and yelling at him. While the deputy attempted to arrest Broussard, she pulled away from the deputy, the affidavit said.
Authorities located a small revolver in the back seat of the vehicle.
The deputy located the complainant in the case who said he was traveling on U.S. 90 West in the Bayou Vista area when Broussard pulled onto the highway, failed to yield and almost struck him.
The complainant said he laid on his horn while applying the brakes, and, at some point, their vehicles became even with each other. Broussard then began waving a gun in his direction, and was yelling at him at the same time, the affidavit said.
Broussard’s plea agreement stated that she must attend, pay for and successfully complete an anger management class.
