ALPHONSE GREEN
Alphonse “Al” Green passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, June 5, 2015 in Kindred Hospital in Tomball, Texas. “Al Green,” as he was affectionately known, was born on December 19, 1934, in New Iberia, to the late O’Neal Green and Irene Mitchell Grant. Upon graduation from Jonas Henderson High School in 1955, Al relocated to Beaumont and Prairie View, TX, respectively.
Al served our country honorably in the U.S Navy and the Merchant Marines. Upon his discharge, Al acquired a bachelor of science degree and a master of education degree from Prairie View A&M University. He enjoyed a stellar career as a high school vocational instructor. Al was also a master musician who played the full spectrum of saxophones from soprano to baritone. His sweet sounds of musical perfection were a blessing to family, friends and acquaintances for many years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 41 years, Carolyn Vance Green of Prairie View, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Valeree’ and Alan Teasley of Stone Mountain, GA; one granddaughter, Ashleigh LaShee Harvey of Macon, GA; one aunt, Lorena Thomas of Kenner; one brother in law, Freddie Guienze of Franklin; four nephews, Keith Guienze (Carol), John Guienze (Monica), Edward Guienze (Pam) of Franklin, Alvin Small (Maureen) of Grand Rapids, MI; three nieces, Irene Broussard and Angela Small of Franklin, Kimberly Caesar (Wayne) of Ashton; a very special cousin and friend, Herbert L. Davis (Valerie) of New Iberia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Edward Grant; and one sister, Annie Louise Small Guienze.
