BERNICE A. SMITH
Bernice A. Smith, 63, a native of Pineville, Louisiana, and a resident of Patterson, Louisiana, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at 6:12 a.m. at her residence.
Visitation will be observed Friday, June 26, 2015, from 4 p.m. until a Time of Remembrance Service at 5:30 p.m. at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Morgan City, Louisiana, with Pastor Larry Frank presiding.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in St. Maurice, Louisiana, with viewing beginning one hour prior to funeral services. Burial will follow funeral services in the St. Maurice Cemetery.
Bernice devoted 34 years of helping others in the St. Mary Parish area as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Morgan City. She was known as the one who would “dance all over the place” during Mardi Gras ball time.
Memories of a life well-lived will forever be remembered and cherished in the hearts of her husband, Dwight Smith Sr. of Patterson; two loving daughters, Valencia Smith-Cooper (Dalton) of Morgan City and Andrea Ducre (Joseph) of Covington, Louisiana; four grandchildren who she loved dearly, Ashley, Joanna, Brailee and DJ; one brother, Charles Brown (Cynthia) of Lafayette, Louisiana; one sister, Cynthia Scranton of St. Maurice; her other furry son, Chance; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Governor B. Young and Odell Anderson-Brown; and her son, Dwight Smith Jr.
