Charles ‘Chuck’ Linten Mitchell

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Berwick at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, for their pastor, Pastor Chuck Mitchell, 68, who died Friday, March 21, 2014, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.
Born July 1, 1945, in Greenville, Texas, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from McNeese State University. Mr. Mitchell was a Vietnam War veteran, serving from 1967 to 1968. He was a resident of Berwick and lived all over the state during his lifetime. Mr. Mitchell’s employment included oil field drilling fluids engineer, game ranch manager, road and aeronautics construction, equipment sales and rentals, environmental remediation, clean up and water reclamation.
The son of a preacher, he surrendered to the call late in life and God had a fifth-generation devoted, dynamic Under Shepherd who boldly challenged everyone he met, “When you wake up in the morning and stretch out your arms and you don’t hit wood, then God still has something for you to do!”
Survivors include his wife, Edith Didier Mitchell; daughter, Elizabeth Menoi Mitchell Andre and husband, Andrew Bret Andre; son, William Roy Mitchell; stepdaughter, Melissa Canella; stepson, Joey Canella; five grandchildren, Morgan Ashleigh, Harley Dylan and Jenna Leigh Andre, William Hunter and Kaleb Blake Mitchell; a brother, the Rev. Gary Mitchell and wife, Elaine; sister, Sue Mitchell Carlock; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. William “Bill” Mitchell and Nancy Allison Mitchell.
The family thanks Dr. Jones Samuel and the wonderful staff at Fresenius Medical Care 4848 Mancuso Lane, Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to FBC Berwick, 709 Boudreaux St., Berwick, LA 70342.
His body was donated to research at LSU Medical New Orleans.
