Doris Mae Griffen-Johnson

Doris Mae Griffen-Johnson, 87, a native of Jeanerette and resident of Morgan City, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at 12:07 p.m. at Morgan City Healthcare.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Morgan City. A celebration of life service will begin at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum in Jeanerette.
Doris’ primary and high school education was attained in Iberia Parish. She went on to earn bachelor and masters of arts degrees in elementary education. Her teaching career began in St. Martin Parish and later in St. Mary Parish, where she taught elementary students for 30 years before retiring in 1980.
Doris was a member of the National Education Association, AARP, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and former member of St. Mary Retired Teachers Association.
She was considered by her family as “The World’s Best Cook” and loved every minute in her kitchen. She enjoyed fishing and shrimping.
Doris is survived by her caring husband of 63 years, Foster D. Johnson, of Morgan City; a loving daughter, Dr. Janice Johnson-Umez of Baytown, Texas; two loving and caring grandchildren, Bedford and Doris Umez, both of Baytown; a close cousin, Ramona K. Bennett (James), of Baton Rouge; three dear friends, Betty B. Jacquet and Shirley P. Courville (Jimmy), all of Morgan City, and Rebecca M. Bowles (Taylor), of Jeanerette; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Louise Griffen; three sisters; and two brothers.
