Fr. Gary Rottmann, Pastor of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinity, TX, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Dr. Hay was born July 18, 1941 in Crowley, LA to McIver and Minta Myers Hay. He graduated from high school in Port Sulphur, LA in 1959 and continued his education at LSU. He and Charlotte Luke of Centerville were married on August 8, 1964. His three sons, Raymond McIver Hay Jr. (Mack), Robert Boyd Hay (Boyd) and John Michael Hay were all born in Louisiana. He received his degree from LSU Medical School in 1966. After completing his internship and residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Mack served as a Major in the U. S. Air Force at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, LA.
Following his military service and receiving his certification from the Board of Orthopedic Surgery, he moved to Houston, TX with his wife and three sons, until his retirement in 2001, he was involved in various positions in the medical community where he was deeply admired and respected. During his long career as a surgeon, he served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at Bellaire Medical Center. His most fulfilling professional accomplish-ments were during the years he was in private practice at Westside Orthopedic and Sports Medicine. He was also an active member in various professional associations including American Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, Houston Orthopedic Society and Texas Orthopedic Association.
In addition to being a devoted husband and father, he immensely enjoyed the outdoors, particularly his adventurous hunting trips with longtime friends, Dr. Bill Ball and M.E. Revels. These trips were the source of many elaborate tales chronicling the Alaskan terrain, treacherous big game hunts and adventures in primitive camping. These stories were second only to those about the greatest love of his life, his family. His smile would widen as he would reflect on growing up with his brother and sister in Louisiana oilfield towns like Grand Isle. He also shared many tales about the person that inspired him the most, his grandmother, Mrs. Boyd C. “Mamie” Milton.
Upon retiring to Trinity, TX, he was able to combine his passion for his family, especially his grandchildren, with his love for the East Texas Piney Woods. It was during this time that he was also confirmed Catholic by Father Felix of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Charlotte Luke Hay; sons, Raymond McIver Hay Jr. (Mack) and wife, Lisa Thomas Hay; Robert Boyd Hay (Boyd) and wife, Julie Gaudet Hay; John Michael Hay and wife, and Jamie Thoelke Hay; grandchildren, Colton Boyd Hay, Tanner McIver Hay, Emily Paige Hay, Allison Ann Hay, Parker Thomas Hay, Grant Michael Hay, and Charles Walker Hay; brother, Stanley Layton Hay; sister, Myra Maudra Cozzi and husband, Michael Cozzi; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
