EVELYN R. GARRETT

Evelyn R. Garrett, 84, a resident and native of Morgan City, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 11:40 a.m., at her residence surrounded by family and friends.
Having a desire to be a servant for the Lord and believing in Psalm 84:10, “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Mrs. Garrett served faithfully on the New Zorah Baptist Church Usher Board at one time serving as the Usher Board President. She also worked in other auxiliaries of her church as well. Her home on Bowman Street was always open to anyone.
Visitation will be observed on Thursday, July 7, at the New Zorah Baptist Church in Morgan City, from 9 a.m. until funeral services at 1 p.m. The Rev. Terry L. Joseph Sr. will officiate the services. Burial will follow funeral services in the Morgan City Cemetery.
Memories of Evelyn will forever remain in the hearts of her three sons, Earl Garrett Jr. of Lawton, OK; James Garrett of Lafayette; and Darwin Garrett of Reno, NV; five daughters, Mrs. Milton (Edwena) Craft, Cassandra Garrett and Mrs. Reginald “RIP” (Patricia), Davis, all of Morgan City, Mrs. Nigel (Vanessa Garrett) Francis of Los Angeles, CA; Mrs. Etoyi (Lenora) Jones Sr., of Patterson; and Mrs. Alejandra (Tiffany) Crayton Sr., of Detroit, MI; an aunt, Thelma Agnes Bill of Morgan City; 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a granddaughter, a grandson, and two brothers.
