FREDERICK "FRED" M. POLITO

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin for Frederick “Fred” M. Polito, a native of St. Martinville and a longtime resident of Franklin who passed away at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette on Friday, September 23, 2016, at the age of 77.
He will be laid to rest in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Billy Ruskoski will conduct the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Clint Brown, Shawn Douglas, Charles Saucier, Chad Markerson, Jeremy Markerson, Nicholas Polito, Kelly J. Polito, and Devin Polito.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday at Ibert’s from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 11 a.m.
Fred was a veteran of the Louisiana National Guard, the United States Army, and the United States Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War in Germany as a mechanic and in Okinawa in telecommunications, which led to a 30 plus year career with BellSouth, from which he retired in 2001. Some of his favorite pastimes were sitting on the bayou side feeding the ducks and raccoons and making people laugh telling jokes and stories. His passion in life though was spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his sons, Frederick “Freddie” Polito Jr. and his wife Andrea Saucier Polito, and Kelly M. Polito and his wife Brooke Trahan Polito; step-son, Shawn Douglas and his wife Katie Smith Douglas; step-daughter, Paige Douglas Brown and her husband Clint Brown; brother, Kelly J. Polito; sisters, Lucia “Lu” Polito Billiot and her husband Dwayne Billiot, and Carol Polito; four grandchildren, Devin, Shaye, Nicholas, and Isabella Polito; and six step-grandchildren, Danielle and Jared Clement, and Courtney, William, Emily, and Olivia Douglas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kelly C. Polito; and his mother and step-father, Sadie “Teet” Delaune Polito Giroir and Kirby Giroir.
