George W. Ganaway Sr.

September 24, 1930 — July 8, 2014
George W. Ganaway Sr., 83, a native of Bayou Boutte and a resident of Bayou Vista, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at his residence.
George’s love for Jesus caused him to walk out his faith on a daily basis and help those in need. He had a heart of service; from serving his country during the Korean Conflict to serving the Full Gospel Fellowship as an ordained minister.
His love for his family made him a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. George will be remembered and never forgotten by all who knew him. Well done thy good and faithful servant … enter into the joy of thy Master.
George is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years, Omicle Meaux Ganaway of Bayou Vista; two sons, George W. Ganaway Jr. of Bayou Vista and David Ganaway and his wife, Joy, of Morgan City; one daughter-in-law, Verna Ganaway of Bayou Vista; three brothers, Charles Ganaway of Bayou L’Ourse, Huey Ganaway of Houma and Roosevelt Ganaway of Lafayette; one sister, Silver Mae Picou; 11 grandchildren, Jason, Michelle, Michael, Crystal, David Jr., Amber, David, Marc, Gregory Jr., Gary and Gracey; along with seven great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Kelly Ganaway; one son, Gregory Ganaway; two brothers, Herbert Ganaway and Louis A. Ganaway Jr.; and three sisters, Mary G. Dupre, Florence Ganaway and Betty Jean G. Benner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Twin City Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. George will be laid to rest in Ibert’s Memorial Park Cemetery.
