Gertrude “Butsy” Nini
November 1, 1920 — December 26, 2014
Gertrude “Butsy” B. Nini, a native of Morgan City, former resident of Berwick and longtime resident of Bayou Vista, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at the age of 94.
Butsy was a resilient woman, who was able to overcome many health obstacles in her life. She was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed cooking and providing for her family. She was a gifted seamstress, who made many beautiful dresses for her children, grandchildren and family. Butsy also gave back to the community, having worked as a Hospital Ladies Auxiliary volunteer for the former Fairview Hospital in Bayou Vista.
Butsy leaves to cherish her memory her three loving children, Harold Nini and his wife, Cherry, of Houma, Hansel Nini Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Bayou Vista, and Susan Lambert and her husband, Glenn, of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Cherrie Lombes and her husband, Chanse, of New Iberia, Hal Nini and his wife, Gina, of Houma, Christie dela Brettonne and her husband, John, of Houma, Mark Nini and his wife, Catherine, of Berwick, Stacey Shackett and her husband, James, of Bayou Vista, Lydia LeMaire and her husband Jeremy, of Lafayette, and Julie Knight and her husband, Wesley, of Lafayette; and 14 great-grandchildren, C.J. Lombes Jr., Caitlin, Victoria, Caroline, Madeline and Thomas Nini, Clay, Dale and Lee Broussard, Brittany, Megan and Ada LeMaire, and Lily and Hudson Knight.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hansel “Frenchie” Nini Sr.; her father, Clarence Beadle; her mother, Louise Simoneaux Beadle; four brothers, Irvin Beadle, Raymond “Mona” Beadle, Clarence “Sing” Beadle and Gerald Beadle; and one sister, Gladys Vining.
Visitation was observed today, Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. at St. Stephens Catholic Church with Monsignor Courville officiating. Butsy was laid to rest in the Berwick Mausoleum.
