HAZEL MARY ANSLEM
January 9, 1928- August 12, 2016
Hazel Mary Anslem, 88, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at Morgan City Health Care Center, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Morgan City, the daughter of Lester James Scadlock and Olize Mary Landry Scadlock.
Hazel was devoted to her family. She loved spending time with them on the shrimp boat, fishing, cooking for get-togethers, and trips to the casino. She enjoyed gardening and her trees, which included pecan, satsuma, and Japan Plum trees. Hazel prepared meals for the students at Julia B. Maitland Elementary for over 15 years. She was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
She is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four sons, James Anslem of Morgan City, Johnny Anslem and wife Patricia of Morgan City, Michael Anslem and companion Elaine Falgout of Morgan City, and the late Gerald Anslem and wife Shirley; 16 grandchildren, Sherie Michel, Julie Spruce, Jerrie McNemar, Jamie Anslem, Tammy Anslem, Vickie Nini, Alana Andrus, Joy Sanders, Jason Anslem, Asia Barras, Mike Anslem, Matt Anslem, Amanda Price, JP Anslem, Mark Griffin, and Crystal Green; 36 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Pete Joseph Anslem; parents, Lester James Scadlock and Olize Mary Landry Scadlock; son, Gerald Anslem; brothers, Elmo Scadlock, Clarence “PeeWee” Scadlock and Harry Ganaway; and sisters, Grace Mayon, Irma Ganaway and Geneve Scadlock.
Visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at Twin City Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and resumed today, Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Hazel will be laid to rest in Morgan City Cemetery following the services.
