LAURA BELLE ZIMMERMAN TRAHAN

Laura Belle Zimmerman Trahan, a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at 12:44 a.m. at the Franklin Foundation Hospital Laura Belle was born on August 18, 1933 to the late Alex Zimmerman and the late Thelma Derouen Zimmerman. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Assumption, where she belonged to the Catholic Daughters. Some of her favorite pastimes included reading, playing cards with friends, traveling, fishing and serving her church and community. She was a Lieutenant with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office where she served as secretary for 25 years under Sheriff Chester Baudoin. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her five children, John Trahan and his wife, Suzanne; Thomas “Bubba” Trahan; Mary T. Robicheaux and her husband, Mark; Mike Trahan and his wife, Bonnie; and Mitch Trahan and his wife, Karen; 12 grandchildren, Corey, Brent, Katie, William, Carly, Patrick, Scott, Caroline, Emily, Tony, Zach, and Brett; eight great grandchildren, AddieGrace, Annalise, Oliver, Baylen, Emmy, Brayden, Harper, and Weston; three siblings, Gail Lancon and her husband, Amar; Roslyn Arceneaux and her husband, Fernest; and Hilary Zimmerman and his wife, Mary; her sister-in-law, Sara Zimmerman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Laura Belle was preceded in death by her husband, Alcide “Buck” Smith Trahan; and two siblings, Luna Z. Bodin and her husband, Russel; and Herman Zimmerman.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at the church at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery Mausoleum. Father Billy Ruskoski will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services, with Father Lloyd Benoit and Father Michael Russo concelebrating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Laura Belle’s name to the Hanson Alumni Account, Hanson Memorial High School, 903 Anderson St., Franklin, LA 70538.
