Madeline grew up in Franklin and married her true love, A.J., on Feb. 6, 1954. They moved their young family to Baldwin in 1960. She faced her husband’s untimely death in 1969 and the daunting task of caring for her children alone with courage and grace. She raised three strong daughters who brought much joy to her life. She was blessed to have the love and support of her siblings and she loved their children as her own. Her family was uniquely close and subsequent generations have learned to embrace this. She exuded warmth and love that others felt in her presence. She was known for her smile and her nonjudgmental nature. She was passionate about music, especially classical music and opera. However, she surprised us by recently attending a Willie Nelson concert. She hosted an annual family crawfish boil for over 30 years and cherished many lifelong friendships. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three daughters, Martha B. Wyatt and her husband Stephen of Lafayette, Sarah B. Caffery and her husband Gordon of Covington, and Kay B. Parker of The Woodlands, TX; four siblings, Daisy H. Crowell, Joyce H. Burns, Ruth Ann H. James, and Ronald J. Hale; seven grandchildren, Clare W. Allen, Leah C. Wyatt, Amy L. Malley, Erin L. Texada, A. J. LaCroix, Rachel P. Gerke, and Daniel L. Parker; four great grandchildren, Jack R. Malley, Bennett J. Malley, Miller T. Texada, and Greyson R. Gerke; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony “A. J.” Bruno; eight siblings, Elnora Rand, Ursula Hale, Lillian Hale, Edward Hale, Lawrence Hale, Eunice Driskill, Flora Mae Naquin, and Malcolm Hale; one granddaughter, Lauren E. LaCroix; and one son-in-law, Lynn Parker.
