Michael P. Michel

August 3, 1950 — October 10, 2014
Michael P. Michel, 64, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away today, Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family.
Michael leaves to cherish his wonderful memory, his wife of 40 years, Tessie Rhodes Michel, of Morgan City; his son, Matthew C. Michel and his wife, Lauren, of Youngsville; their daughter, Ava Grace Michel, of Youngsville; his son, Brett C. Michel and his fiancé, Celina Allemand, of Lafayette; one brother, Lovelace J. Michel Jr.; and one sister, Toni Svoboda.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Lovelace J. Michel Sr. and Mildred Romero Michel.
Michael served six years in the U.S. Army National Guard of Louisiana and was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He prayed the rosary every day for 10 years while both his sons served in the Iraq war.
Michael was a Boy Scouts of America Scout Master for Troop 49 and flew out 29 Eagle scouts, two of which were his own sons. He received the B.S.A. Silver Beaver Award.
Michael was the administrative accountant at South Central Louisiana Technical College/Young Memorial Campus. Michael’s hobbies included hunting, shooting, fishing, camping, woodcarving, and especially, photography, the last for which he won multiple awards locally.
It is well known that Michael was also involved during his free time in youth baseball and football. Michael was known for always having a smile on his face, he could bring anyone to laughter, and brighten their worst day. It shouldn’t have to be said that he was a pleasure to be around. Honesty, integrity, loyalty and patience were just a few of his values.
Visitation will be today, Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at Hargrave Funeral Home, beginning at 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., with a Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at 9 a.m. until time of Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City. A Mass of Christian burial will begin Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Michael being laid to rest in the Morgan City Mausoleum.
